What is NUMU?

NUMU is a uniquely safe and engaging space designed in close consultation with young people, teachers and education leaders. It provides students with the tools to create their own web pages where they can publish their music, images and videos, discover new music and connect with others.

NUMU continues the work of the Musical Futures pathfinders regions as detailed in the Musical Futures teachers packs.

NUMU is available for FREE to schools.

 

Music services and other national and regional organisations should contact us to discuss consultation, training and support packages.

 

How do I join NUMU?

Schools can join NUMU now for FREE by completing the simple online registration form. One of our team will then contact you to find out more about your requirements, organise training and start your NUMU membership.

 

Who can join NUMU?

NUMU is an educational resource providing a secure environment for young people aged up to 19 to create and collaborate. To ensure this is maintained only teachers/project leaders/mentors of educational centres or related community groups can set up a label. If you would like to discuss your organisation's status please contact us.

Is it safe for young people?

NUMU differs from other online music sites because it is dedicated to young people and education. All content is checked and moderated by teachers and our own CRB approved staff. Only registered members can leave messages and no personal details are available on the site. We do not carry any advertising and our 'code of conduct' ensures NUMU is a safe, positive and creative community for young people to develop new skills.

 

 

What copyright protection does student's music have on NUMU?

NUMU is working closely with British Music Rights, the Music Publishers Association and other industry bodies to ensure all artists on NUMU are protected. For more information about copyright or our work with BMR and MPA please contact us

 

How much music can I upload?

You can upload as much original music to your label as you want.

 

Can I get training on using NUMU?

You certainly can. We offer a range of full day training options for schools and organisations. We can help set up your label in school or introduce your to digital music making.

 

What do I need to use NUMU?

NUMU has been designed to work with the following minimum requirements:

Sound enabled PC or Mac

Internet Connection - preferably broadband

Web Browser - Javascript Enabled
PC: Internet Explorer 5+ or Firefox

Screen - 800x600 minimum resolution 256 colours

 

Do I need any special software?

No. The NUMU site has been developed to work in educational centres without any extra software. Music is streamed using Macromedia Flash Player which is installed on most current web browsers.
