Musical Futures...What next?

What is Numu
Here’s the chance to get your school on the musical map. Tap into your students’ talent, and help people in poverty around the globe – they could even end up playing live at the Leeds Festival or win a Roland drum kit!

Welcome to our new competition – Oxjam: The Big School Gig. Oxfam has teamed up with NUMU to help give aspiring young music stars their big break – and raise big money for Oxfam.

We need you - or your students - to organise an Oxjam ‘Battle of the Bands’-style gig at your school, raising funds for Oxfam. Entrants have to be aged between 5-19, and it’s open to bands, singers,
rappers, soloists, or any other music-related act, playing any style of music. Each school will choose an act from their gig to progress to a national online round on NUMU. Movers and shakers in the music
industry will then pick the top 10 and a public vote will select the ultimate winner to appear live at Leeds Festival 2009 with 2nd and 3rd places receiving Roland TD Drumkits.

This is a ideal way to really engage students in music - Mark Taylor - Head of Music

Oxjam: The Big School Gig is ideal for music teachers, but anyone at your school can join in. It can link with an existing event, project, or extended school activity, and works in the curriculum, including Music KS3 & 4. There are also lots of cross-curricular benefits in
Media, Performing Arts, Citizenship, English, and Business Studies.

You have until 31 March 2009 to hold your fundraising event that will set your stars on the path to success, and more people on the path
out of poverty.

Give your students the chance of a lifetime.
