“Between Angels And Insects”

Performed by nuttall_91

I think this track is one of the best on the whole site so far. I like it because it's the type of music I like and it's quite a heavy track. The only actual instrument in it is the guitar. There are no vocals but I still think it is really good. I think the thing that makes this track good is the fast guitaring which is in time and you can tell that Nuttall_91 spent a lot of time on it. It has made it on the charts on my schools label which it should be. In my opinion, more people should listen to this type of music.

“ss9” (I Have Nothing)

by Katy

This review is about a singer, well known by the students and staff at our school. She is called Katy. She has won many competitions that have taken place at our school. With an amazing voice, it's not hard for her to win!

A track, named ss9, is a version that Katy has done in a recent talent contest, and won! This song is called 'I Have Nothing', which, if I must say so, really suits her, especially for her voice.

I think that this song is one of the best tracks of NUMU, well done Katy!

“Ruby”

by jb93

On NUMU I like the artist jb93 because they do it all - sing and play instruments.  They sang the song Ruby that was originally sung by the Kaiser Chiefs. Jb93 has eight people singing the song “Ruby”, I have worked out that two people are the lead singers (two boys), three people are backup singers (three girls), two people play the guitar and last of all someone plays the drums.

I like the group because they don't just sing along with the CD they actually spend their time to learn the notes for the guitars and drums. Also everyone has different parts so people are not doing the same thing. That's why they have the backup singers to make the song more interesting.

Jb93 has sung another song by Green Day - "Wake Me Up When September Ends". Only one person sings this but at the same time he is playing the guitar. I like the song because he is singing it in tune. He sings at the right time of the music. He is talented enough that he can play the guitar and sing at the same time. He has obviously spent a lot of time on it. That is why I think jb93 is the best singer on NUMU that I know of and the most talented.

Marquee Gig 20th February 2008.
By Crazy horse and Steve1993 .

The Marquee gig was a far better turnout than the last one, the bands that played included, Nightstorm, GFCR and special guests Ollie and Nick.

The night was kicked off with Ollie and Nick playing a tremendous set and my personal favourite of the night, they played really well and they got the night off to a really good start.

Next up were Nightstorm who entertained us with a few songs this included a well known song by iron maiden called run to the hills and the band definitely have a talent in sense of performance and confidence on stage.

Last but definitely not least, in fact they were should I say the loudest band of the night and I think they also got the crowd going the most. Musical talent is definitely shown in the GFCR. Each musician had a special quality and with all these crammed into one band they were bound to be excellent. Next gig these guys MUST play rock lobster as the crowd were demanding for this song.
They definitely went out with a bit of a shout.

Al the bands played amazingly and the night was all in all an entertaining one. We hope that the next gig will have a good turnout like this one and the more the merrier.

Finale Print Music Review

By Pensive Cosmos

Finale print music is an easy working, affordable, must have program for any musician creating their own music, or writing music for their GCSE compositions. Everything on the page is clear and easy to find, everything is explained how to use individually at the bottom of the page as you click on it, no space is wasted. Every single tool bar you can imagine on a music program can be put on the screen allowing your piece excellence in a matter of clicks, rather then ten different keyboard actions so you can place one trill on a one beat note. Frustrating for a mind set on creation, rather then logic.

Although everything is easy to find and easy to see, I did find the colours on the page slightly dull and old fashioned, however, this did not slightly put me off using the program, it was just an observation made the first moment I brought up the Finale starting screen. Another small disappointment was the drums, everything from a hi-hat to a random honk is available in a click but, as you begin to put double the drum kit pieces you're using at once, difficulty is created. Trying to move one thing up to a crash from snare drum moves everything else up, destroying at first the sound you were trying to create, the problem is easily solved after a few minutes of working out however, the system of which it worked was slightly confusing at first.

Something I was very pleased with was the sounds of each individual instrument, especially the guitars, all slides and bends sound as they should, which made my opinion of the program at a very high standard, as did the sound quality of all the other instruments available. This to me is very important in my use of any music creating program, without the ability to place live sounds in.

The only other problem that occurred was creating more pages then what you originally started with, I couldn't for the life of me work out how to add more, but that's possibly my problem rather then the programs. The MIDI software is easy to setup, opening saving and deleting, no problem as you would expect on a program such as it.

Overall I would give Finale Print Music 7/10, purely because of the drums and dullness of the colours. The program was easy to use, find things and workout, very pleasing for any musicians whose thoughts are based on creativity.

A wide range of instruments were available and setting up your piece from the start was easy without confusing mishaps occurring. Set out comfortably for the eyes, every notation, ornament, dynamic and so on is simple to identify, a well worth it investment.

Beauty Corruption by Becky G .
I think this track is so pretty. It's beautiful. I think the lyrics are gorgeous and her voice is outstanding. I love the music rhythms and tunes. I adore the song and I'm hooked on it. I keep getting my friends to listen to it. It's not over done with complicated harmonies. It is simple and sounds very professional. A clear voice and recording. This track is my latest NUMU favourite. I love the percussion used in it. It's so delicate and I feel it's just a delight to listen to. Go listen to it. She's an amazing singer and songwriter by the looks of it. She will go far. Well Done! If it hadn't of been in the NUMU Top 10 I would never have discovered it. It's my favourite song of the month.

Dream by Claire M / Raw Studio.

This song got the January Prize I thought it was a gorgeous song. With strong melody, vocals and guitar throughout it's a soft gentle piece. I love the layout of the song and I like the lyrics in the song. It's a song people can relate to and a song that people (me) can hum all day long. Love it! It was my favourite track for January. Well Done Claire!

Music Learning Live by The Parky Krew

The day at the Sage went very well. We interviewed a lot of people with an MP3 recorder (you can listen to them on Radiowaves) and filmed some people. The equipment we used was really good. I made a song on garage band, it's a good music maker.

We all loved the day and the NUMU t-shirts. We are going to wear them for NUMU on Tuesdays. We were there to demonstrate NUMU. We got our lunch free (well... NUMU paid!) and we had a look around. I recorded a trumpet player called Abraham Wilson. I would love to come back for another Music Learning Live, maybe next year.

Music Learning Live was very fun and exciting. We did loads of things such as our own live performance, teaching others about NUMU, u-myx, and playing with other musical things that were in the classroom of the future. Me and Singstar went by ourselves and did a few interviews of the public and what they though about NUMU and the Sage. We also did a few video recordings of the public. We made a little song at a workshop with a man who had a guitar. We got a CD with the song on.

We then went to have a lovely lunch at the cafe, it was ok. After that me and Singstar went to loads of workshops. One of them was 'music from scratch' and 'find your voice' and in the last one you had to sing your ABC and then make a song out of the tune. We got loads of FREE goodies and everyone enjoyed themselves. I would certainly go back for a day out.

The day at the Sage was very interesting and fun too. The classroom of the future was excellent it had electric pianos, electric drums and Apple computers. We had to talk to other people about NUMU and u-myx. The best thing was looking around the Sage and going to other workshops like 'music from scratch'. It wasn't just a fun trip it was very educational too. We got free lunch and shirts. We also got lots of freebies pens, pencils etc. mizz and I were asked to interview people at the Sage with a video camera and to record important things.

Overall I enjoyed the trip very much and it would be great to go back.

Rosie G - She Will Be Loved

by RHZN26 - Waddesdonfivearrows

This review is about Rosie G's She Will Be Loved. Who is under the record label of SHSG.

I absolutely adore her version of it. She has a lovely strong powerful voice, and the guitar in the song is also very powerful. I feel she has harmonised this piece amazingly. I like the use of layering. Rosie G has made this song so that it is really catchy and addictive. Myself and a friend keep getting torn back to her song. It got to a point every time I signed in to NUMU I just had to go and listen to it. It then got to a point where I was humming it. However I can't do it as well as Rosie G. I'm so glad that it made it to the Top 10 and made it to Number 1.

I also love City Lights by Rosie G. I think she is extremely talented and I think and hope she goes far with her music. She is defiantly so very talented. I have no idea how old she is as she has no “about me” or anything but she goes to secondary school so she isn't very old. I think she is incredible, a pure inspiration. I hope she feels proud of herself for doing so well. Well Done Rosie G. I recommend to you peeps reading this to go check her out.

Also whilst you're on the SHSG's site, check out Vickyrice. Dear Mr President sounds extremely good. I love it. Another one I keep having to listen to. I recently listened to the original version of it. Vickyrice does it so well in my opinion. Check it out!

Well Done Gurlies!

Musict

By, Ace_Manga_Girl , PensbyGh

This review is about Musict , who is under the label TBEC. Although Musict has no blog, gallery,or about Me,Their music keeps dragging Me back to their page to hear it more and see if there is anything new.

Although Musict does not do any of the above things , Their only song, a piano cover of the fray's how to save a life , seems to tell a thousand words about this artist.

I am a fan of the Fray, and Especially of the song how to save a life.Whenever I listen to the actual song,I have found that I have always paid more attention to the piano than the actual song.Sadly , the piano is mostly covered by the other instruments and the singers , and leavesMe lsightly dissapointed. This has probably given you a slightly estranged view of Me,now hasn't it? You've probably got the right idea then. Anyway, this review is not about Me,so on I will go.

To the music,I have to say that I exceptionally enjoy listening to this.Although it is not the full song,it lets my imagination run wild with ideas for stories that fit the wonderful music perfectly.

To the artist Musict,I have to thank You for playing and putting this peice of music onto Numu.By doing so,You have granted My wish .Thankyou again, and I hope that by this review, many more people will listen to Musict's how to save a life.

Rock School Rock The Marquee Club

by Iwillnotbedrowned

The rock school gig on Wednesday 5 th December 2007 was definitely another awesome time had by everyone there, band members and audience alike.

The first band on was Epic Fails , a band new this term but with members already experienced rock-school artistes. They played a great set of Blink-182 covers that literally everyone in the audience knew the words to. It was the perfect way to start the evening off. They even had a special appearance from Batman on drums! However, he did slightly resemble drummer James Seward…

Next on were “the amazing” GFCR (what does this mean???), a five-piece band with a lot of curly hair and a touch of screamo. They are new this term and this was their first ever rock-school gig but they all acted like pros. They played a superb set of three covers including the bravely attempted, on singer Charlie Mailer's part, but wonderfully executed “Iron Man” that finished a set the crowd enjoyed. These five guys had energy and moved around the stage loads. Most people will agree that it won't be long until they're headlining.

Third on was very much a contrast to the evening by The Two Georges . This was a nice acoustic Indie set with two people called George who are both extremely talented musicians and vocalists. They also must be appreciated for their bravery of playing a calming and very pleasant set to a club of sweaty teenagers. They played a set of Indie songs that the parents at the back really enjoyed and the rest of the audience appreciated a lot.

On next were The Cex . This band are most known for their perfect choice of covers that everyone in the audience knows all the words to and loves to sing along to! However, they did add in a few of their own deliciously emotastic tunes that were really great to listen to this time as well. This was definitely a fun set and got the crowd going again and the energy pumping.

After The Cex was Torched (featuring Adrian Graham on Bass) and to be honest, with a vocalist with as much confidence as their Steven Rogers, it was bound to be a good set. Keeping everyone captivated and providing songs the entire variety of the audience to enjoy is a tricky task, but Torched did succeed. It really was a super end to and entirely awesome night!

All the band were really, really good and made the gig extremely enjoyable but the best performance of the night must be handed to the MCs; Tim Rowbotham and Chris Russell, most famously known for their time in favourite rock school band Vince Is A Girl . These two kept the whole audience enthralled and the whole experience their own extremely entertaining touch.

What more could you possibly want from a rock school gig? Great bands, awesome MCs… Perfect!
